Mum threatens to leave husband as he refuses to change tattoo of their kids' names

A dad's reluctance to change a tattoo of his children's names on his arm has threatened to tear his family apart.

On a Reddit post which has ignited a fierce debate, user tattoothrowaway77 explains that he has the names of his three offspring going down his arm, reading Andy, Sara and Kate (not actual names).

The tattoo was all done at the same time after his eldest Kate was born as the 42-
year-old 'knew she would be his last'.

The poster says: "My wife immediately supported her and made sure that I would too without any argument or else she would divorce me.

"It was a huge family issue for a while but eventually it was solved and everything has been good for the last little while.

"I'm slowly learning more and trying to accept my daughter and her new pronouns and her name change."

The issue arose when Athena and his wife sat him down this week to explain that the tattoo on his arm which still reads Andy was hurting his daughter and putting strain on their relationship.

His wife told him she wanted him to get the inking touched up to read correctly but he argued it wasn't that simple.

He says the change would require laser removal and a new tattoo being put in its place, neither of which he can afford.
When the dad argued the tattoo was a 'non issue', he says Athena yelled at him, calling him a s***ty father and telling him that if he doesn't support her there will be no place for him in her life.

His wife threatened to take the children to go and stay with her parents but he feels it's a 'bigger problem than it should be'.

He ends the post asking "I'm basically just wondering if I'm the a**hole in this situation?"

The question spilt the opinion of the commenters below.

One user said: "You're right in principle when it comes to the tattoo as an isolated issue in that tattoo removal is in fact costly and time-intensive.

"However, your tattoo IS an issue for Athena and I think what she really wants is for you to acknowledge that with her, particularly because it took you time to get to a place of acceptance."

This was echoed by another who added: "Reading between the lines, it sounds like 'I was so resistant to accepting my child was trans that my wife had to threaten to divorce me before I grudgingly accepted it'."
